A Foodie Weekend in NYC

The weekend of the 16th we spent it in NYC, it was fantastic! It started out with a The Veins show on Friday and because we didn't feel like commuting all the way back to Jersey we stayed in a hotel for the next 2 days. I love it was expected we visited several vegetarian and semi-vegetarian yummy spots. I am dedicating this post to review these restaurants.

On Saturday morning we visited our favorite vegetarian eatery and teahouse of all time: Teany. If you go to the City you have to go to this place. For those who don't know it, a few years back, it was opened by Moby and his ex-girlfriend on the Lower East Side. The ambiance is so comfy and inviting, it is a small place but with a big heart (cheesy but true!). We have probably been to Teany three or four times and each time the food gets better and better. They have a huge selection of teas and I'm embarrassed to say I haven't tried them (I was the biggest tea drinker of all time but coffee has befriended me lately). I ordered baked eggs, orange juice, a latte, fruit salad and toast. It was amazing and healthy! My husband ordered a Teany bagel with veggie Canadian bacon, tomato and cheese, fruit salad, and another sandwich that was really good but we can't remember the name. And my brother ordered scrambled eggs with toast and fruit salad, similar to my dish.

In the evening we visited Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop. I was happy with my order as well as my brother but my husband did not care for his. The good thing about this place is that they can make the majority of the dishes vegetarian! I love it when they are open to serving veggie heads, when I first became a vegetarian I would ask or request meatless dishes but later I learned that there are many chefs who hate vegetarians so I chose to keep my mouth shut and just eat what I knew was meatless. I ordered a Big Mack Daddy a veggie burger topped with mild cheddar, tofu bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, mustard, and a special sauce. I thought it was amazing! My husband ordered a Chicken Cordon Bleu a veggie breaded chicken cutlet, vegetarian ham, Swiss, and tomato on toasted semolina roll. Even though I ate whatever he did not, it was not half as good as my burger.
And my brother ordered the Hammer a Black Forest Ham, melted Swiss, sun-dried tomato, fresh tomato, and sliced onion on toasted 7-grain. He said it was very tasty although he discovered he does not like sun-dried tomatoes :(

The next day we had breakfast at Kate's Joint. We had dined there before and we were very impressed with our meals, especially my brother who said his burger was the best vegetarian burger he had ever tasted. Unfortunately, breakfast was not so awesome, it was OK. I ordered Kate's Benedict a tofu scramble on a bed of fresh spinach, sauteed mushrooms, and un-sausage topped with vegan Hollandaise and plain coffee with milk (no fancy coffee beverages here). It was good and filling. My husband ordered a bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, un-sausage and Hash Browns and a personal pizza. Again, he wasn't very pleased, he ate it all but everything had rosemary which he doesn't like and the pizza, well...not one of the best, I agree. My brother ordered a breakfast veggie burger, he thought he was ordering the same one from the last time we went but it wasn't, this was a true veggie burger (with lots of veggies inside!), a no-no for him but the fries saved him :-)

In conclusion, we had a wonderful time, especially me, because I'm the least picky of the three, meaning I can enjoy more! Teany was by far, the best place we went to but the others deserve an honorable mention. Hope you liked my reviews and that you get a chance to visit these spots. Cheers!
